"I was so impressed with your foreman and his attention to detail with the fence install. He could have cut some corners and we probably wouldn't have known, but both my wife and I took note of how he asked for our opinions and responded with courtesy. He and his fellow workers were very professional and cleaned up after their work very well." -B. Stephenson, Sandy, Ut.
Problem Solving Fun on a Friday Afternoon!
May 19th, 2011
Business as usual is often challenged by odd interruptions. Weather has the biggest affect on our business. Several days of rain or snow can play havoc with our customers' schedules. Fortunately, we're usually able to rebound quickly and make up ground if the inclement weather doesn't last too long. Somtimes other totally unexpected events catch us off guard and then it's "all hands on deck." Last week, a routine waste management pickup turned to a near-disaster. The quick thinking of our staff helped to avoid what could have been a much worse situation.
The large waste containers are loaded onto a truck using a cable with rails running on the bed to guide and secure the load. The Waste Management driver didn't mount the container correctly and it slid off its rails slamming into our perimeter chain link fence.
Several of our crew members scrambled to stabilize the container. With some quick thinking and teamwork, we were able to re-set the container using two fork lifts and assistance from others to prop and guide it. After an hour of nail-biting work, our crew was able to lift and reposition the container onto the rails so that the container could be hauled off. Thanks to our quick thinking crew, no harm or injury came to anyone involved, and we avoided damaging our neighbor's building or destroying our Trex fence displays in the front of our property.
What did we learn...? 1) Two forklifts with good drivers are capable of moving a very heavy, full dump container, and 2) best laid plans to go home on time on a Friday night don't always work out as we like.
You can count on CFC employees to think creatively and work effectively. It's rare that we get sutck on a problem!

Did Brett Miller single handedly lift the fallen container?!
