Beware of Scam Contractors
Often these pitchmen appear on your doorstep claiming they have a great deal on whatever repair is needed and ask for cash upfront, she explained. The con artists then may do a poor job or just disappear with the victim’s money, leaving little recourse.

Coming Soon! UTA TRAX Sound Barrier Fence
CFC is proud to announce that they have partnered up with the city of Draper, UTA TRAX, the Utah Department of Transportation, K/H/P Construction, a Joint Venture (KHP) on the Utah Transit Authority Lightrail Project. The project is to create a sound barrier fence that will run all along the new TRAX line that will be built going through Draper and Sandy. Saddle Trex Fencing was selected for Sound barriers (Trex Fencing) to create a peremiter around the Tracks. The fence will be a staggered Saddle Trex fence that will stand 6' to 13' tall when stacked. It will run 16,800 feel long with a total of 26,000 feet when stacked. The sound barrier fence will run along side the new TRAX line. It is a great honor to be apart of this new Utah project that will help so many Utahns. We look forward to continue construction and to see the final result.

Trex Gate Adjustments
Like any structure, particularly those out-of-doors, a fence
will require periodic maintenance to ensure it serves its function properly.
Because gates are moving parts, they are typically the first components of the
fence that will need attention. Trex fencing is the best composite product for
low-maintenance use so the gates have been developed to ensure they also
require little maintenance. The patent pending gate product will require little
attention through normal use. However, it’s not uncommon that a gate or the
post footer will expand and contract over time causing the gate to shift
slightly. Should that occur, a simple adjustment to the hinges is often all
that it will take to make the gate fully usable again. With that in mind, we
have come up with some instructions for you to be able to do a quick
do-it-yourself fix! Click here to find out more about adjusting your gate.

8' Tall Estates built in Salt Lake
CFC Fences & Decks recently finished an 8’ tall
Cedar Estates Fence in Salt Lake City, Utah. This beautiful wood fence
was installed along the back fence line to provide privacy between the
two neighboring yards and swimming pools. An interesting aspect about this project was that a fence
needed to be installed on top of a concrete bench next to a unsightly cinder
block wall... Read more

The Four F's of Fence Considerations
We recently hired a bookkeeper, Lee Hibberts. Since she has no background in fencing, we thought it would be interesting to poll her and see what she thought was important in making decisions for her own fence. Seeing that most of us have been involved in hundreds of fence projects, our expertise has actually made us foget what we wouldn't have known before we became seasoned veterans of our industry!
Our thought in writing this article was to help a prospective customer think about what's important to them when considering a fence installation. We hope you find this information valuable.

CFC offers SimTek Fence
CFC has been known since 1989 for providing products that are not just high in quality but innovate in material and design. We recently chose SimTek fence as our newest addition to our best-in-class portfolio. SimTek is a beautiful and affordable alternative to rock walls. Like Trex, it is a far superior fence product when compared to vinyl. Take a look at the SimTek Fence product. We're sure you'll be impressed!
Looking for Low Maintenance? Vinyl has become quite popular in Utah because many customers want a low maintenance alternative to wood or expensive rock walls. But our customers tell us time and again that vinyl is not the best if you're looking for an attractive and durable product.

CFC Recognized by Trex Company for Innovative Deck Design
This news is somewhat older but it's a piece of newsworthy recognition we wanted to highlighted. Trex Company holds annual meetings for their biggest and most skilled contractors. CFC has been a Trex Gold contractor for years but we were recently recognized at a higher level with a new Trex Pro Platinum designation. During an annual meeting in Florida, Trex distributed five awards and we're proud to have won the Most Creative Design category for a deck we installed in Highland. Present in the picture are: Butch Palaza, Trex National Sales Manager; Rick Ashcraft, CFC; Seth Porter, Trex Regional Sales Manager; Edmund Rose, CFC; Mitch Cox, Trex VP of Sales.
The Trex Pro meetings are an excellent way for companies like CFC to meet with the best-in-class deck and fence builders to meet with each other to share best practices and learn about new products. At this particular meeting, the Trex lighting and furniture systems were introduced as well as the new decking boards in their new Trascend deck line. Take a look at our new deck website to see some examples of the new colors. We also learned the process to curve decking and railing materials. We've already done bending for several previous projects but the methods we learned are quicker and more accurate so the last couple of jobs turned out spectacularly!

American Fence Association Field Training School
Periodically we get the opportunity to participate in skill set development and peer-sharing best practices activities. In addition to standard classes such as fence post installation, personal and truck/trailer safety, and proper concrete mixing, the American Fence Association rolled out new components this year to its field training school covering topics from blueprint reading to welding techniques. Edmund Rose is attending for CFC in 2011 and will report back on key learning experiences.

CFC Presents at ASLA Social
CFC Fences & Decks attended and presented industry information for the Utah Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects at the monthly gathering. The event, held at the Daybreak Community Room in South Jordan, afforded us the opportunity to discuss fencing trends, the evolution of composite materials in decking and fencing applications, and showcase some of the ideas we've learned and applied that relate to the "outdoor living space" theme. Since there are other members of the chapter that were not able to attend, we'll post some information from the presentation shortly. Jolynn Atkinson, the chapter Executive Director, and Corey Whiting, the current ASLA Chapter President, organized and hosted the event, and Edmund Rose, General Manager for CFC, presented. We always enjoy the opportunity to share our expertise in our specialties and learn from others in correlating industries.

One of our deck projects shown in Grabber product catalog
One of the leading manufacturers of construction fasteners used a photo in their catalog from a deck project we completed for a client in Alpine. The deck was built using a composite screw manufactured by Grabber. We're proud of the deck's elaborate beauty and were grateful to get recognition for our work on a national scale.
CFC uses quality products like Grabber that are specifically engineered for the applicable type of construction. It is important to note that structures like decks require special attention to detail because of safety considerations and building code requirements. With a CFC installation you can be assured that you are working with a professional organization that has the proper knowledge and resources.

Tie Fork Voted Best Rest Stop in the Country
The Tie Fork Visitors Center recently won an award for the best rest stop in the United States. The event was highlighted on a recent KSL 5 news spot. It's always an honor to be a part of these types of projects. The visitor's center is an interesting place with plenty to do for the whole family including a full-size train, a replica depot, and lots of information.
Cedar split rail fencing is the perfect compliment to the rustic, old railroad appeal of the property. If you're on U.S. 6 anytime soon, stop by the visitor center - you'll really enjoy the experience. Check out the fence surrounding the full size train and the replica depot!

Vinyl Fence Problems
Occasionally, we are asked if we install vinyl fencing. We do not - we specialize in wood, Trex, and iron. Here are some reasons why:
Cost: Basic white vinyl fencing is roughly the same price as a basic wood fence.
Appeal: The advantage to a buyer of vinyl fencing is that it doesn't require staining. The disadvantage is that it isn't natural looking, so if a buyer prefers a fence that ties in better with their landscaping, vinyl wouldn't be the logical choice.
Strength: This is perhaps the most important problem with vinyl fencing. The thickness of the material is substantially thinner than that of a product like Trex.
These reasons, along with many others, is why Trex Fencing is the best choice when deciding on a low maintenance composite fence...More about Vinyl Fence Problems, Pictures of Vinyl Fence Damage.

Off Season Installations
As our busy season winds down, we have been getting calls to ask if we do installations later in the fall or in the winter. The answer is yes! Why should you have to wait another whole year to enjoy your fence or deck? We believe that you shouldn't have to.
Our full time crews work all year round as so long as it isn't snowing heavily or raining, we can install your project. Additionally, because fewer of our customers request installations in the "off season", we can usually get to your job quite quickly.
So as our busy season winds down, take advantage of this great opportunity and call us.

Fortress Iron with Solar Powered Lamp Posts
CFC recently finished installing an Flat Top Iron fence in Orem. This was a very exciting project for us because we had the opportunity to work with our new Fortress Iron product. Fortress Iron is manufactured to be a thicker and more durable iron to increase the lifetime of the fence. It can also be combined with Trex or Wood and compliments any area or setting.
Along with working with this new material, we installed solar powered lamp posts with an arched gate. These lamp posts are unique and energy friendly. These combined with the arched gates provided an added unique touch that complimented our customers property in a sophisticated and beautiful way.... More on our recent project.
